AC Repair

We find why your AC stopped cooling and fix it right, for homes and businesses across Central Florida.

AC Magic offers AC repair in Orlando. Your AC needs a repair visit if it runs but the house stays warm, makes new noises, leaks water, or keeps shutting off. Most of these problems start small. Caught early, many are simple fixes. Left alone, a small fault can take out a costly part like the compressor.

Warm Air From the Vents Is the Most Common AC Repair Call

Warm air from the vents while the system runs usually points to one of a few faults: low refrigerant from a leak, a dirty outdoor coil, a failed capacitor, or a compressor that will not start. Check the easy things first. Is the thermostat set to cool? Is the filter clogged? Is the outdoor unit running? If the fan inside blows but the outdoor unit stays silent, the problem is often electrical, like a capacitor or contactor. Those parts are small. They fail often. They are also not safe to touch, because a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off.

Ice on the Lines Means Turn the AC Off

Ice on the copper line or the indoor coil means air is not moving across the coil, or the refrigerant is low. Turn the system off. Let it thaw. Running a frozen AC can push liquid back to the compressor and damage it. Common causes are a clogged filter, a blocked return, a weak blower, or a refrigerant leak. A fresh filter can fix it. If the ice comes back after that, a leak is likely, and adding refrigerant without fixing the leak only buys time.

Water Around the Indoor Unit Usually Means a Clogged Drain Line

Your AC pulls water out of the air. That water leaves through a small pipe called the condensate drain line. When algae and dirt clog it, water backs up into the pan and spills. Some systems have a float switch that shuts the AC off when the pan fills. So a system that suddenly will not run, with water sitting in the pan, may just have a clogged drain. Clearing the line fixes it. A rusted pan with holes needs to be replaced.

Noises and Short Cycling Point to the Failing Part

Each sound points somewhere. Buzzing at the outdoor unit with no start often means a bad capacitor or contactor. Grinding or squealing points to a worn fan motor bearing. A loud bang at startup can mean the compressor is in trouble. Short cycling is different. The system turns on and off fast, over and over, and it can come from a dirty coil, low refrigerant, a thermostat in a sunny spot, or an AC that is too big for the house. It wears parts out. It also leaves the air damp.

When a Repair Stops Making Sense

Repair is usually the right call for capacitors, contactors, fan motors, drain lines, and thermostats. The math changes with big failures. A dead compressor, a leaking indoor coil on an older system, or a system that runs on R-22 refrigerant, which is no longer made, can cost close to a new system. That is the point to compare repair with replacement. If you reach it, our AC installation page covers how to choose the new system.
